OSCE Chairman discusses cooperation at NATO
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Salomon Passy, Chairman-in-Office of the
Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), paid a one-day
visit to NATO for talks on NATO-OSCE cooperation.
Mr. Passy addressed the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, which brings together NATO member and partner countries, all of which are members of the OSCE. He also met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to discuss ongoing cooperation between the OSCE and NATO in the Balkans and Afghanistan. Afghanistan is the most recent example of the two organisations working closely together. NATO assisted in providing security for the presidential election, while an OSCE team was mandated to assess and analyze the electoral process. Speaking to reporters following their meeting, both the Secretary General and Mr. Passy emphasized the importance of close cooperation between NATO and the OSCE. “I do believe that the two organisations have a great future together and we shall have to spare no effort in order to work for the common goals,” Mr. Passy said.
