Partner countries to contribute to NATO’s defence against terrorism efforts News 25/10/2004 - NATO Second NATO technology and equipment exhibition on “The digital battlefield” Multimedia High resolution photos of the exhibition on “The digital battlefield” At a meeting of Armaments Directors from NATO and partner nations, an invitation was expended to the Alliance’s partner countries to contribute to Alliance's high priority efforts to transform NATO’s ability to defend against terrorist attacks The annual meeting of the senior armaments officials from NATO and partner countries was held on the first day of the biannual Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) at NATO Headquarters on, 28 October. At the meeting Russia’s top armaments official, General Aleksey Mikhailovich Moskovsky, briefed on Russian technology relevant to defence against terrorism. In a landmark decision, it was agreed that NATO’s efforts to develop cutting-edge solutions to counter terrorists challenges in two specific areas would be opened up to contributions from partner countries. Partner countries were invited to assist in Alliance-led efforts to develop technologies to counter improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the weapon of choice of many terrorists today, as well as the search for improvements to our explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) capabilities. A number of partner countries expressed interest in contributing to the development of these technologies.
