NATO-EU-Russia relations in the context of providing security in the Baltic region were addressed at the seminar in Kaliningrad

On 23-25 October 2004 an international seminar on NATO, EU and security in the Baltic region took place in Kaliningrad.

The seminar was organized by Kaliningrad State University and Kaliningrad Branch of the Association of European studies.

The event was aimed at developing research on problems of European security, at widening cooperation between Russia and NATO as well as at developing exchanges between Russian and NATO students, postgraduates and young researchers.

Among its participants were the leading specialists in the area of European security and international relations from Russia, Poland, Lithuania and Germany.

Besides, some 36 undergraduate and postgraduate students from Kaliningrad, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, Warsaw, Minsk and Klaipeda also attended the event.

The seminar addressed such issues as the role of the EU-NATO-Russia cooperation in countering new threats and challenges to security, the EU enlargement and particular position of Kaliningrad Oblast; role of NATO-Russia cooperation in providing security in the Baltic sea region; the ways of improvement of the EU-NATO-Russia cooperation in the field of internal security; the improvement of trans-border cooperation and border management.

The seminar is expected to be followed by a series of special courses dealing with European security and NATO developed by Kaliningrad State University.
