A team of NATO military experts visited Baghdad from 5 to 10 July to gather information to develop options for the modalities of NATO’s assistance to Iraq.

The team, led by Admiral Gregory G. Johnson, Commander Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples, met with representatives of the Interim Iraqi Government and Coalition leadership.

The aim of the mission was to gather information to develop options for modalities to carry out the decision of NATO Heads of State and Government in Istanbul, 28 June, to provide training to Iraq's security forces and consider further proposals to support the nascent Iraqi security institutions.

These options will be presented to the North Atlantic Council for their decision in the coming weeks.
