Senior military medical authorities of NATO member countries are meeting at NATO Headquarters for the 20th plenary session of the Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO, 22 to 24 October.

The Committee is responsible for the coordination of military medical cooperation among NATO member countries, with the goal of promoting standardisation and interoperability in the medical field.

As new NATO missions and concepts of operations place increased emphasis on joint military operations, enhancing the importance of coordination of medical support in peacekeeping, disaster relief and humanitarian operations is key.

The plenary session will review the work accomplished in the past year and set priorities for the months ahead. Topics to be addressed include medical aspects of new threats, such as weapons of mass destruction. The session will also look to reviewing the structure and mandate of NATO’s medical working groups.
