Helping Portugal fight forest fires News 04/08/2003 - EADRCC Disaster assistance request from Portugal (.PDF/17Kb) 04/08/2003 - EADRCC Latest situation Reports Key Links Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre A number of NATO and partner countries have responded to Portugal’s request for assistance in fighting the forest fires in the country and are now providing material, personnel or financial support. On 4 August, Portugal sent to NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) an urgent request for aircraft and helicopters to help fight forest fires raging in the country. In accordance with its procedures, the EADRCC contacted NATO and partner countries regarding the assistance requested by Portugal, and several countries have responded positively. The Centre will continue to maintain contact with authorities in Portugal as well as in NATO and partner countries regarding any other possible assistance that might be required.
