NATO CCMS round table discussion in EAPC format on “prevention and mitigation of societal disruption”

The NATO Committee on the Challenges of Modern Society (CCMS) will meet at NATO HQ, Brussels, on 20-21 March 2003 both for an annual EAPC plenary meeting and a Round Table on Prevention and Mitigation of Societal Disruption.

The Round Table will be chaired by ASG, Public Diplomacy, Mr. J. Fournet, and it will consist of four sessions on the following topics:

  • Food Chain Security & Terrorism
  • Environmental Crime
  • National Perspectives on Response Structures to Threats
  • Risk Communication

The event will provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on non-traditional threats to security such as food chain security among experts from both NATO and Partner countries as well as some international organisations.

The main objective is to highlight the need for a broad, cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach to new threats and challenges to security.

Representatives from 15 NATO and 17 Partner countries will participate and the expected outcome is to initiate joint cooperative projects and to establish a network of experts.

Audio files of the presentations will be made available on the NATO website on the day of the event.
