Meeting on NATO's communication
and information systems

The NATO Consultation, Command and Control Board (NC3 B) is holding its bi-annual meeting at NATO HQ, 13-14 November. This Board oversees the work of NATO agencies with responsibilities in developing allied capabilities in the vital area of communications and information systems.

Since the NC3 B is also responsible for ensuring that NATO and Partner countries are able to communicate together, especially during crises, representatives from Partner countries were invited to participate in sessions held on the first day of the meeting. Among the topics discussed were major issues such as interoperability between NATO and national systems, current operations in the Balkans, radio communications, status reports on major programmes and on the NATO C3 Agencies.

The sessions on the second day will be restricted to NATO member countries and will focus on the future direction of NATO Communications and Information Systems (CIS) and ongoing matters in the NC3 Organisation. Discussions will include reports on the experience of the United States of CIS support in Afghanistan and the Turkish leadership of the ISAF, cyber defence, satellite communications and deployable CIS.
