Change of command in the Balkans The NATO-led peacekeeping operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo have new commanders:
Lt Gen. Fabio Mini (Italy) assumed command of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) on 4 October 2002, taking over from Lt. Gen. Marcel M. Valentin (France).
On 8 October Lt. Gen. William E. Ward (United States), became the seventh commander of SFOR, the NATO-led peacekeeping force in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He succeeded Lt. Gen. John B. Sylvester (United States) who had been in the position since September 2001. Additional information:
