The Secretary General participated in a roundtable organised by the New Atlantic Initiative that comes under the aegis of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a Washington-based think-tank. He delivered a speech on "Tackling Terror: NATO's New Mission"
In Washington D.C., Lord Robertson and members of the NAC held meetings with the Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, the National Security Advisor, Condoleeza Rice, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Richard Myers, the Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage and other senior officials of the US Department of State. In addition, the NAC met members of the US Senate to discuss the Prague Summit agenda and security related issues. On 20 June, the Secretary General participated in a roundtable organised by the New Atlantic Initiative on NATO's counter-terrorism strategy.
The SACLANT seminar, "Transformation in action",
which the NAC attended at the beginning of its visit, 17-18
June, covered key issues currently under review such as the
military command structure, and more importantly, NATO's adaptation
to new security threats and its contribution to Coalition forces
in Afghanistan.
