NATO organises
"Industry Day"
on transport issues
Transportation and, more specifically, information related
to containers, ports and railroad transport were at the heart
of the first "Industry Day" to be initiated by the
NATO Planning Board for Inland Surface Transport. On 5 June,
79 participants from NATO, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue
countries gathered in York, United Kingdom, to be briefed by
industrialists on transport issues.
This initiative aimed to create greater awareness within the
defence world on problems regarding civilian transportation
used during crisis management and civil emergency operations.
Logistics are an important aspect of the Alliance's work, with
issues such as standardisation and other technical points of
relevance to the successful conduct of an operation. The event
was organised by the Department of Transport of the United Kingdom.
