Lord Robertson briefed
on Norwegian defence reform

Most issues on NATO's current agenda, in particular, NATO's transformation and adaptation to new security threats, the Balkans, developments in NATO-Russia relations, enlargement, NATO-EU relations and their impact on NATO members which are not members of the EU - as is the case for Norway - and defence reform were discussed during Lord Robertson's meetings with Norwegian government leaders and officials on 31 May.

The Secretary General met Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, Minister of Defence Kristin Krohn Devold and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Petersen to discuss these issues, which have direct implications for Norway. Norway is currently in the process of restructuring its armed forces in accordance with the military needs of today's security environment. During his visit, Lord Robertson visited the Bardufoss Air Station in Northern Norway, where he observed a military exercise. Northern Norway is where most of the country's military assets are installed.
