Discussions on the Prague Summit agenda

The US Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Marc Grossman, after meeting with Lord Robertson last week in Washington D.C., came to NATO HQ to continue discussions on the agenda of the Prague Summit.

At the Summit, which is to be held on 21-22 November, NATO will invite one or more of the partner countries that are participating in the Membership Action Plan to join the Alliance, but member countries will also assess the impact of the tragic events of 11 September 2001 on NATO's strategic thinking. NATO's role and missions will be redefined in light of emerging new security threats and specific means of fighting international terrorism will be identified.

As well as having a bilateral meeting with Lord Robertson, Marc Grossman also briefed the North Atlantic Council -NATO's most important decision making body. He explained what the United States would like to highlight at the Summit and stressed the continued importance of the Alliance for the security of the Euro-Atlantic area
