Lord Robertson meets with new EU presidency and OSCE chairmanship

Both the European Union and the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have changed presidency this month. On this occasion, NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson, travelled to Spain and Portugal on 10 January to meet with the new presidencies of the two organisations.

He discussed Spain's programme for the EU presidency with President José Maria Aznar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Piqué and the Minister of Defence, Federico Trillo. Spain holds the EU presidency for the next six months and will be succeeded by Denmark in the second half of 2002. After his meetings in Madrid, Lord Robertson travelled to Portugal, which has assumed the one-year chairmanship of the OSCE.
