NATO Military Committee visits regional commandNATO's highest military authority, the Military Committee (MC), visited the regional southern command: Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH) on 19 July. The chairman of the MC, Admiral Guido Venturoni and the nineteen NATO representatives received first-hand information on issues affecting the regional command which is now responsible for all NATO-led operations in the Balkans (see Implementation of new KFOR command arrangements). The visit came just over a month after AFSOUTH celebrated its 50th anniversary. AFSOUTH was inaugurated on 21 June 1951, when the first Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Robert B. Carney, raised his flag on a US vessel anchored in the Bay of Naples. The present Commander-in-Chief is Admiral James O. Ellis. Additional information:
