Statement by the Secretary General concerning Missile Defences

I have listened with great interest to US President Bush's speech on the growing challenges to global security, including the requirement for missile defences. The President is right to focus on these new security challenges, and I welcome his commitment to close consultation with the Allies. I spoke with him by phone yesterday, and am pleased that he is sending a team to brief NATO on the details of his thinking next week.

NATO Economics Colloquium 2001

The 2001 NATO Economics Colloquium was held on 2-4 May 2001 in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, and dealt with "The Interrelationship between Regional Economic Cooperation, Security and Stability". The main regions discussed were South Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. Actual settings, needs, opportunities and constraints of regional economic cooperation in these areas were extensively highlighted over the two days.

CNAD spring meeting

The Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) met at NATO Headquarters for its biannual meeting on 3-4 May to assess the current status of major policy issues and projects under its purview.
