NATO
parliamentarians come to NATO HQ
|

Parliamentarians from NATO member countries met
NATO Ambassadors in Council session on 19 February
to discuss issues on NATO's current agenda. This
is a regular feature of the annual joint meeting
of the NATO
Parliamentary Assembly's Defence and Security,
Economics and Security, and Political Committees.

New
Information Office in Moscow
|
|
At the inauguration ceremony of the new NATO Information
Office in Moscow on 20 February, NATO Secretary
General, Lord Robertson, emphasised the major role
the office would play in informing Russian citizens
on the new NATO and helping to reinforce NATO-Russia
cooperation. He stated that "More than ten
years after the end of the Cold War, at the start
of the 21st century, the NATO-Russia relationship
must evolve into a true strategic partnership. The
NATO Information Office represents one pioneering
step along this road". The Information
Office is located in central Moscow and will be
open and fully running in a few weeks' time.

Transfer
of command for SFOR
|
|
Following the announcement of the new command arrangements
for NATO-led troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SFOR)
and in Kosovo (KFOR) last October (see NATO Update
18-24 October), the transfer of command ceremony
for SFOR was held at Camp Butmir on 20 February.

Lord
Robertson on two-day visit to Prague
|
|
NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson, went to
the Czech capital on 21-22 February to meet with
President Václav Havel, Prime Minister Milo
Zeman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign
Affairs Jan Kavan, Minister of Defence Vladimír
Vetchy, as well as members of Parliament.
