Almost 660,000 refugees have returned to Kosovo, including some
from third party asylum countries, a month after the deployment
of NATO forces into the region. Refugee camps are gradually closing
down as they empty. Approximately 395,000 refugees have returned
from Albania alone since 15 June.
Many of the refugees who have returned so far have been able to
establish at least one room in their home, with the help of the
UNHCR, in which they can live through the coming Winter until further
reconstruction can take place.
The majority of Alliance troops participating in the NATO-led peacekeeping
force, KFOR, have now deployed, as have elements of the Russian
contingent. Troops from other participating countries will arrive
over the coming months.
