The Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer will travel to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland on 11-13 March 2009. The visit will coincide with the 10th anniversary of these countries’ entry into the Alliance.
In Budapest, the Secretary General will hold talks with the President Laszlo Solyom, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, Foreign Minister Kinga Goncz and Speaker of the Parliament Katalin Szili. He will also speak at the conference “Ten Years in NATO: A Decade of Security”.
In Prague he will meet with President Vaclav Klaus, Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, Defence Minister Vlasta Parkanova. Additionally, the Secretary General will take part in the Informal European Union session of Defence Ministers and deliver a speech at the conference “NATO Enlargement Ten Years On: Achievements, Challenges, Prospects”.
In Warsaw, there will be consultations with President Lech Kaczynski, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Defence Minister Bogdan Klich. He will also give a key note address at the conference “NATO-Challenges and Tasks Ahead”.
