on the appointment of Ambassador Eide
as UN Special Representative in Afghanistan

On behalf of NATO, I warmly welcome the appointment of Ambassador Kai Eide as UN Special Representative in Afghanistan. 

Ambassador Eide is well known and extremely well respected in international circles for his diplomatic skills, his experience in post-conflict situations, and his knowledge of security issues. 

NATO looks forward to working closely with him as he takes up his important duties to improve the coordination and profile of the international effort in support of Afghanistan.
