NATO closely following the situation in Mauritania NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador, Alessandro Minuto Rizzo, today expressed his concern by the recent events in Mauritania and said that the Alliance is following the situation very closely. Ambassador Minuto Rizzo joins United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, and the president of the Commission of the African Union, Alpha Oumar Konare, in rejecting the seizure of power by force and in calling for political disagreements to be settled peacefully, through the democratic process. Mauritania is a member of the Mediterranean Dialogue of NATO. |
