Statement
by the Secretary General of Nato on assistance to Indonesia in the aftermath of the Tsunami disaster

Following the Indian Ocean Tsunami, NATO has agreed to donate 565 metres of bridge equipment from Alliance stocks to assist in the reconstruction effort in Aceh, Indonesia. This equipment valued at more than 6 million Euros, is being readied for transportation and assembly in the disaster area as soon as possible.

This donation has been made in response to a request from the Indonesian Government, and in coordination with the United Nations. The Government of the Netherlands is acting as lead nation for the Alliance in managing this assistance, with support from the United Kingdom.
