Statement by the NATO Secretary General
on Terrorist Hostage-taking

Recent months have seen an increase of hostage-takings committed by terrorists. I condemn these abhorrent acts.

As stated by the Istanbul Summit of Heads of State and Government on 28 June, the Alliance strongly condemns terrorism, whatever its motivations or manifestations, and will fight it as long as necessary. Hostage-taking is yet another revolting tactic applied by terrorists. Allies will stand firm against this threat. They will be relentless in their response and will continue to strengthen their individual and collective contributions to the international community’s fight against terrorism.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the families of the victims.
