Informal Meeting of Defence Ministers

Munich, Germany - 6 February 2004

1. Information

Defence Ministers of NATO will hold an informal meeting in Munich, Germany, on Friday, 6 February 2004, under the chairmanship of the NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. The Conference area and the Media Centre will be located in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Promenadeplatz 2–6, 80333 Munich.

2. Accreditation and security checks

Applications for accreditation should be made using the attached form, which should be returned to the following address no later than Sunday, 1 February 2004:

Due to capacity limits there can only be one accredited editorial member or camera team per editorial department. If you are accredited, the accreditation office will send you a confirmation by fax or e-mail including further information. Press passes previously applied for will be available for collection from 07:30 hours on Friday, 6 February, at the Media Accreditation Office, Hotel Hilton München Park, Am Tucherpark, 80538 Munich. An ID card or passport and a press card (or letter of accreditation from a recognized media organization) should be presented and must be shown at any time upon request of security personnel.

All media representatives are informed that security personnel at the Media Centre will examine and may test equipment and personal effects carried onto the site. To avoid delays, media representatives are requested to arrive with sufficient time to clear the security checks.

3. Media Centre

The Media Centre staffed by German personnel will be located in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof.
Opening hours of the Media Centre are:
Friday, 6 February, from 07:30 to 20:00 hours.

The Media Centre will be equipped with communications and transmission facilities. For specific questions regarding television or radio facilities, please contact the Host broadcaster:

4. Transport - Parking - Visas

Media representatives are advised to use their own means of transportation to and from the airport.
Private parking will not be available adjacent to the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, however there are pay car parks in the vicinity.
Please check with the nearest German embassy or consulate regarding visa requirements.

5. Accomodation

Media representatives are advised to book their hotel rooms independently. The Hotel Hilton München Park, Am Tucherpark, 80538 Munich, is recommended (Tel: +49 (0)89 38 45 0; Fax: +49 (0)89 38 45 25 88).

Please indicate the keyword “Münchner Sicherheitskonferenz” (Munich Conference on Security Policy) when making the booking.

6. Programme and Pools

Ministers will meet for a working lunch after which the NATO Secretary General will brief the Press at 15:45 hours.
A restricted pool will cover the first minutes of the meeting.
All news conferences and press briefings will take place at the Media Centre.
