First day in office of new NATO Secretary General Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer News 05/01/2004 - NATO New Secretary General takes up office The new Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will take up his duties on 5 January 2004. He will arrive at NATO Headquarters at 09.00, where he will be greeted by the Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alessandro Minuto Rizzo and by the Chairman of the Military Committee, General H. Kujat. He will briefly address the media. MEDIA ADVISORY Programme 09:00 Arrival of the new Secretary General at NATO's Main Entrance. The Secretary General will briefly address the media. Open coverage on a first-come-first-served basis Media wishing to cover the new Secretary General's arrival at the Main Entrance will be allowed onto the NATO premises from 08.00 onwards, and should take up their positions before 08.30.
