Lord Robertson visits Afghanistan
and to meet President Karzai

The Secretary General of NATO, Lord Robertson, visited Kabul, Afghanistan today to review NATO’s ISAF operation and to consult with Afghan and UN authorities. During his visit, Lord Robertson met the Commander of ISAF, Lieutenant-General Götz Gliemeroth (GEAR) and the Deputy Commander, Major-General Andrew Leslie (CAAR). He had lunch with troops from a broad range of ISAF contributing nations.
The Secretary General also met the Afghan Transitional Authority Minister of Interior Ali Ahmed Jalali and Minister of Defence Mohammed Fahim Khan.
This Sunday, 28 September, Lord Robertson will meet President Hamid Karzai, during the President’s stop-over in Scotland.

This visit to Kabul and the meeting with President Karzai clearly demonstrate NATO’s commitment to ISAF and Afghanistan. NATO is working closely with President Karzai and the Afghanistan Transitional Authority to secure a better future for all the people of the country.
