Appointment of temporary Spokesman

Following the recent departure of the NATO Spokesman, Yves Brodeur, the Secretary General has asked Jamie Shea, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for External Relations in the Public Diplomacy Division, to fill the post on a temporary basis until a new Spokesman has been appointed.

He will work alongside Mark Laity, Personal Adviser to the Secretary General and Deputy Spokesman, in handling NATO's relations with the media. Mr. Shea's temporary return to his former position will help to provide continuity over Lord Robertson's final months in office and the initial period in office of the new Secretary General, pending the arrival of a new Spokesman.

It will also enable Mark Laity, who leaves in December, to carry out various special tasks on behalf of the Secretary General between now and Lord Robertson's departure at the end of the year. Mr. Shea will assume his duties as Acting Spokesman on October 1.
