Science Committee to meet in Tashkent The NATO Science Committee will be meeting for the first time in Central Asia on 13 and 14 of June 2002. The meeting will be held upon invitation by the Uzbek authorities and will address opportunities of NATO support for scientific co-operation among scientists in the region. During the meeting, NATO will appraise progress achieved in the Virtual Silk Highway, a NATO Science Programme project that will deliver fast Internet connectivity to the research community in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Uzbek scientists will be the first to benefit from the Virtual Silk Highway, planned to be launched later this year. On Friday, 14 June, the Assistant Secretary General for Scientific Affairs, Mr. Jean Fournet will be addressing the regional seminar for young scientists "Leaders of Tomorrow", organised by the NATO Science Programme in co-operation with the Uzbek authorities.
