Crisis Management Exercise (CMX 2002) The 19 NATO Nations will conduct their annual Crisis Management Exercise (CMX 2002) from 31 January to 6 February 2002. NATO CMX 2002 is sponsored by the Secretary General of NATO and is jointly scheduled by the two strategic commanders, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT).The exercise is designed to practice crisis management procedures, measures and arrangements, including civil-military cooperation in order to maintain and improve the Alliance's ability to manage crises. The scenario of this command post exercise is hypothetical. It deals with those actions that NATO and NATO countries might take in response to an emerging crisis under Article 5 of the Washington Treaty. No actual troops will be deployed. Participants in CMX 02 will include civil and military staffs in national capitals, at NATO Headquarters, in both strategic commands, and appropriate subordinate headquarters.
