New NATO Assistant Secretary General for Security Investment, Logistics and Civil Emergency Planning The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, announces the appointment of Mr. Juan A. Martínez-Esparza (Spain) to the position of Assistant Secretary General for Security Investment, Logistics and Civil Emergency Planning (SILCEP) with effect from 3 September 2001.Mr. Martínez-Esparza was born on 23 July, 1940. During his career, Mr. Martínez-Esparza has notably served as NATO Desk Officer in charge of relations with NATO at the Spanish Ministry of Defence, Civil Representative on the Senior NATO Logisticians Committee, Chaiman of a number of politico-military delegations and joint defence commissions, Defence Counsellor to the Spanish Delegation to NATO, Assistant Under-Secretary of Defence for Policy, International Affairs, and prior to coming to NATO, Director, Joint Office for the co-ordination of NATO Security Investment Planning projects. Mr. Martínez-Esparza succeds Mr. Øivind Baekken (Norway). |
