Meeting of the Permanent Joint Council at Ambassadorial level

The NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council (PJC) at Ambassadorial level met on Wednesday, 15 November 2000, at NATO Headquarters.

Ambassadors were briefed on the meeting of Chiefs of Staff under the auspices of the PJC held on 9 November 2000.

Ambassadors discussed the situation in the former Yugoslavia with a particular emphasis on the implications of the peaceful democratic changes in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia for the region.

NATO and Russia also addressed disarmament and arms control issues, including CFE and Open Skies.

Ambassadors discussed issues related to peacekeeping. They reviewed work done in the framework of the PJC Working Group on Peacekeeping.

NATO and Russia reviewed the outcome of a recent NATO-Russia expert meeting on search and rescue at sea and looked forward to close cooperation in this field.

The next PJC meeting at Ambassadorial level will be held on 13 December 2000.
