5. NATO's Role In The Future : Options For CSBMs, Verification, Non-Proliferation, Arms Control And Disarmament In light of overall strategic developments and the reduced salience of nuclear weapons, the Alliance has considered options for confidence and security building measures, verification, non-proliferation, and arms control and disarmament. The work that has been carried out within the Alliance has been brought together in a comprehensive and integrated approach. The result is focused on specific policy options for the future, which are summarized hereafter.
