MEDIA ADVISORY

First Ministerial Meeting of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council
New York, 26th September 1997

The first meeting at ministerial level of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council (PJC) will take place in New York on 26 September 1997 under the joint chairmanship of the NATO Secretary General, Dr. Javier Solana, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Evgeni Primakov, and the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Erik Derycke. The PJC will be held at the UN Headquarters.

Programme

09h00 PJC meeting in the Economic and Social Council Chamber.
Media representatives leave before the opening of the meeting.

11h05 Family photo in the West Foyer.

11h30 Joint Press Conference by the three Chairmen in the UN Press Briefing Room (S-226).

Pool Arrangements

Media representatives will be able to enter the UN buildings as from 8.00 a.m. on the day of the meeting.

Programme

08h30 Pools 1 + 2 will be convened and guided by UN staff in co-operation with UN Security to the Economic and Social Council Chamber.
08h50 Pool 1 will be in place inside the table (+ 8 lenses). Pool 2 will be in place in the foreseen area on levels 1 and 2 (+ 40 lenses).
09h00 Pool 1 will join Pool 2 one minute after the NATO Secretary General gives the sign to Ministers to sit down.
09h03 Pools 1 and 2 will be escorted out of the meeting room.
10h50 Pool 3 in place for family photo in "West Foyer" (+ 25 lenses).
11h05 Family Photo.
11h10 Pool 3 will be guided back to the public area.

The pool badges can be picked up from 8.00 a.m. on 26 September at the Media Accreditation Desk in the Visitors' Lobby of UN HQ.

Accreditation and Security

Media representatives who are accredited for the UN General Assembly will automatically be accredited for the PJC Meeting. Media who want to be accredited for the PJC only should address their request to Ms Sonja Lecca or Mr. Abdelahy Kabbaj (Fax: + 1-212-963 4642) giving the following information:

- Name
- Title
- Organization - Duty Station - New York or other
- Office Address + Telephone Number
- Home Address + Telephone Number
- Type of pass required - TV, Photo, Radio or Writing Press.

Accreditation badges can be picked up at the Media Accreditation Desk in the Visitors' Lobby of UN HQ until 5.00 p.m. on 25 September 1997 upon presentation of photo identification and press card.

All media representatives accredited to the meeting are advised that security personnel will examine and may test equipment and personal effects carried onto the site. To avoid delays, media representatives must arrive early to be able to clear the security checks.
