New NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political
Affairs
The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
announces the appointment of Ambassador Klaus-Peter Klaiber, to the
position of Assistant Secretary General for Political
Affairs, as of 1 September 1997.
Ambassador Klaiber was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and entered
the German Foreign Service in 1968. During his career, he has served
at the German Embassies in Kinshasa, Kenya,
Washington and London. At the German Foreign Ministry in Bonn he
has dealt with European Political Co-operation. He has also been
Deputy Head of the Private Office of the former
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Genscher, Deputy Political
Director, and prior to coming to NATO, Head of Policy Planning.
Ambassador Klaiber succeeds Ambassador Gebhardt von Moltke who
has been appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to
the United Kingdom.
