NATO To Conduct Crisis Management Exercise The Crisis Management Exercise 1997 (CMX 97) will take place from 20 to 26 February 1997. Sponsored by the Secretary General, CMX is designed to practice NATO crisis managment procedures, measures and arrangements, including civil-military co-operation. This NATO-wide exercise will involve participation by staffs in Alliance national capitals, NATO Headquarters, Major NATO Commands and certain subordinate NATO commands. For the first time, countries who are members of NATO's Partnership for Peace and who have indicated an interest in crisis management exercises, will be associated with the exercise. Their involvement will include consultation on NATO's exercise activities and, in particular, civil emergency play. No troops will be deployed for this exercise. While taking full account of current strategic circumstances, the exercise scenario is purely hyphothetical and bears no relation to existing countries or events.
