NATO Wives' Bazaar

NATO Headquarters - 17 November 1996

The annual NATO Wives' Bazaar, under the patronage of Mrs. Solana, Mrs. Balanzino and Mrs. Naumann, will take place this year on 17 November 1996 at NATO Headquarters Main Building, on Boulevard Léopold III in Brussels. We are pleased to announce that His Excellency Ambassador Balanzino and Mrs. Folmer, the President of the NATO Wives Bazaar, will give the opening remarks. The Bazaar will be open from 10 am until 4 pm.

This year we are pleased to have 19 Nations participating. The 16 NATO countries plus Hungary, Poland and Romania from the Partnership for Peace Programme.

The profits from the Bazaar are donated to Belgian Charitable Organizations. The items which are sold at the Bazaar represent a cross section of goods from the 18 participating countries. Each Nation has its own stand offering items either made or imported by the women from that nation. In addition there is a selection of national foods served in the International Restaurant and Coffee Corner. Apart from the national stands there will also be an:

Artists Corner.
In this section all members of NATO Headquarters and their families with an artistic streak (painters, sculptors, etc.) can, if they wish, exhibit and sell their works of art. A percentage of the price of the sale will be donated to the Bazaar Fund.

White Elephant Store.
The White Elephant is a term used to describe items which are no longer of use to certain people, but which may be of value to another. All items that are sold at the White Elephant Store have been donated. So all the money from the sale of goods will be going to the Bazaar Fund.

A Tombola.
This is a Giant Tombola with many wonderful prizes donated by the 19 participating Nations.

Last year the Bazaar raised in excess of BF 3.000.000. This money was donated to twelve institutions, each receiving a substantial donation, allowing them to complete a special project which otherwise may never have been accomplished.

Our aim is to continue on the success of the preceding year's Bazaar, so we can donate more money to Belgian Charities.
