Third NATO Advanced Research Workshop
On Intellectual Property

Moscow, 9-11 September, 1996

Experts from ten NATO and Cooperation Partner (CP) countries will participate in a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Intellectual Property: Influence on Business Activity", co-organised with the State Committee for Science and Technologies of the Russian Federation, in Moscow on 9-11 September, 1996. They will exchange views on experiences arising from the practical use of intellectual property as input in, and basis for, transnational business activity between NATO and CP organisations and/or companies.

Target subjects are: joint research and development units, joint venture capital funds, licence and other collaborative agreements and transnational production agreements. The general aim is to increase the mutual understanding of legal and business aspects to accomplish such transnational co-operation in practice.

Two previously held workshops were devoted to intellectual property issues at the governmental level, and to acquisition of property rights. This third workshop on the topic of intellectual property will focus on the more practical aspects. Speakers will present and discuss their national experiences and their attempts to develop a global network of collaborating countries and companies. The theme of this NATO workshop could be "Technology as the currency of the future".

Co-directors of the workshop are: Dr. Evgeniy M. Buryak, Russian Association of Patent Experts, Moscow, Russia, and Dr. Willem van Oort, Licentec Foundation, Utrecht, the Netherlands. For further information please contact Dr. Alain Jubier, NATO Division of Scientific and Environmental Affairs, at fax (32-2)-707-4232.
