            FUNERAL SERVICE IN MEMORY 
          OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF NATO,
                 DR. MANFRED WOERNER

                   MEDIA ADVISORY

The funeral service in memory of the late Secretary
General of NATO, Dr. Manfred Woerner, will be held on
Friday, 19 August, 1994 at 11:00 hours at the
"St-Jacques sur Coudenberg" Church, Place Royale, in
Brussels.

There will be two media opportunities for this funeral
service, one outside the church from roped off areas and
platforms, the second being a strictly limited pool from
inside the church.  Accreditation for these 2 events
will take place at NATO Headquarters, Press Service
accreditation desk between 08:00 and 09:15 on 19 August.


1.        Coverage of arrivals and departures from
outside the church.

  -  Media in possession of a valid accreditation card
(Pool C), and after having been checked by NATO
Security, will be brought to the "St-Jacques sur
Coudenberg" Church by NATO buses which will leave the
Press Entrance on 19 August at 09:30 SHARP.  Only this
accreditation card Pool C will give access to the
roped-off areas and platforms in front of the church.

  -  Scenario:

     09:30:    Guard of honour and military elements
take their places outside the church.

     10:30-10:45:   Arrival of VIP guests.

     10:55:    Hearse arrives from NATO Headquarters,
followed by cars with Mrs. Woerner and family.  Military
band plays.  Coffin is carried into church.

     11:00-12:40:   Religious and NATO ceremony.
               End of ceremony.  Coffin leaves the
church followed by Mrs. Woerner and family.  Military
band plays.  VIP guests depart.


2.        Very limited pool inside the church.

     Due to lack of space only a very limited pool will
be allowed in the church.  Requests for pool membership
should be addressed in writing to NATO Press Service
(fax: 02-728 50 57) before 15:00, 18 August.

     Those being allowed into the pool will be informed
before 18:00 on 18 August and should come to NATO Press
Service Entrance on 19 August at 08:30 to pick up their
pool card, for a security check and to board the NATO
bus to be brought to the church.  Departure of the bus
will be at 09:30 SHARP.  BRTN will install lights,
therefore flashes or lights will not be allowed in the
church. Those journalists who are not part of the
limited Pool can ask for a Pool C pass to cover the
arrivals and departures outside the church.


     11:00-12:40:   Religious and NATO ceremony.
               The complete ceremony will be covered by
the BRTN and broadcast LIVE to NATO Headquarters and
offered to Eurovision.
               During the ceremony there will be
speeches by the Acting Secretary General, The President
d'Honneur (The Rt. Hon. Douglas Hurd CBE MP) and by a
representative of the member nations.  Speeches, if
available, will be distributed under embargo at the
press desk at NATO Headquarters on 19 August, from 10:00
onwards.

3.        NATIP will provide, upon request, BETACAM SP
video copies of the funeral service (contact: Mr De
