ATA and YATA Assemblies in Kyiv

On 07-10 October 2009 the Atlantic Council of Ukraine together with the Civic League NATO-Ukraine, supported by the Public Diplomacy Division, the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine, and Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Ministry are going to hold the 55th General Atlantic Treaty Association Assembly and the 14th Youth Atlantic Treaty Association General Assembly in Kyiv, both of which are non-governmental organizations of NATO member states.

The assemblies will open with their plenary sessions where decisions affecting the organizations will be taken and will proceed with open sessions on the following issues: NATO’s new strategic concept; the way ahead for Afghanistan; atlanticism beyond borders: perception and cooperation; social media; Ukraine-NATO-Russia: challenges and options for further democratic transformation; energy and financial security in the wider Black Sea area; importance of Ukraine for the international security.

The invited speakers are both Ukrainian and international: Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko as well as Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, former Foreign Affairs Minister Boris Tarasyuk, NATO representatives as well as NGO representatives and experts and many other honorary guests.
