Harri Tiido was born on October 8, 1953 in Jõhvi. He graduated from the 2nd Tallinn Secondary School and from Tartu University, specializing in English philology. Beginning in 1980, Mr Tiido was employed as a journalist at the Estonian National Public Radio and Radio Kuku in Tallinn. From 1996-1997, he worked for the Voice of America and from 1997-2000 he worked as the chief editor of Radio Kuku.
In 2000, he was appointed as Deputy Under-Secretary of security policy at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since September 2003, Mr Tiido has been Estonia’s ambassador to NATO.
