Colonel Nico RIES

2002 - 2008

Colonel Nico RIES was born on July, 30th , 1953 in Luxembourg.
On September, 3rd,1973 he joined the Luxembourg Army and began his studies at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, which lasted until December 1977.

During his appointment to the Military Instruction Centre from 1978 to 1994, he occupied the functions of Infantry Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Personnel Officer and Deputy Commander.

In 1994 he was appointed to the Army Staff, firstly as Logistics Officer, subsequently as Assistant Chief of Staff and finally, on January, 26th, 2002 as Chief of Staff.

Throughout his career, Colonel RIES's military education was completed by the following courses:

  • 1978 - 1979: Infantry Officers' Course in MONTPELLIER (FR)
  • 1982: Company Commanders' Course in ARLON (BE)
  • 1985: Staff College in COMPIEGNE (FR)
  • 1989 - 1990: "Ecole Supérieure de Guerre Interarmées" in PARIS (FR)

In 1991 and 1997 Colonel RIES took part in the "European Community Monitor Mission" in former Yugoslavia.

He is married and has two children.
