On 19 November 2009, Italy and Jordan will launch the implementation phase of a new NATO/PfP/MD Trust Fund which will fall under the responsibility of the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) and have Italy as Leading Nation.

Building upon the experience gained and the achievements accomplished through the already existing NATO/PfP/MD Trust Fund for Jordan for the elimination of Explosive Remnants of War and with Ammunition Stockpile Management, this new project will establish two initiatives.

These initiatives will include: funding a Mine and Explosive Remnants of War Education Programme to be conducted by the Jordanian National Committee for Demining and Rehabilitation in the three provinces of Ajloun, Jerash and Zarqa; and purchasing, installing and commissioning equipment for the newly built ammunition demilitarisation facility in Zarqa, as well as providing technical and managerial training where required.

A ceremony for the signature of the Executive Agent Agreement between the Permanent Representative of Italy to the North Atlantic Council and the General Manager of NAMSA will take place at the Staff Center of the NATO Headqurters in Brussels on 19 November at 11 o’clock, in presence of NATO’s Deputy Secretary General and the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The ceremony is open to accredited media. All external participants are invited to go directly to the entrance of the NATO Staff Centre.

Video and still images of the ceremony will be available on the NATO Website after the event and upon request for broadcast-quality feeds.
