On 19-20 November the NATO Public Diplomacy Division organised a two-day meeting at NATO Headquarters for the editors-in-chief and senior journalists from countries taking part in the Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, as well as, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

The media professionals met with NATO officials and on-the-record interviews were conducted with the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Claudio Bisogniero, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Raymond Henault, the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Mr. Jean-François Bureau and the NATO Spokesman, Mr. James Appathurai. The topics covered during the briefings with NATO officials included the Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, NATO’s transformation and NATO in the 21st century.

The group also had the opportunity to meet with the NATO Ambassadors representing Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Ambassadors discussed issues such as transatlantic relations, NATO’s role in Afghanistan and NATO’s outreach to countries in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.

The event was organised in cooperation with the Arab Media Forum, which gathers Arab journalists and media representatives from the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.
