In cooperation with the French Army, NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division has put together a photography exhibition on French soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Entitled “French soldiers in the heart of Afghanistan”, the exhibition traces France’s involvement in the Afghan theatre since 2003.

The display was officially inaugurated in Bayonne at the third NATO Afghan Student Forum on 13 October 2008. On that occasion, students and visitors were given an engrossing view of France’s commitment in Afghanistan and contribution to ISAF. The exhibition is now travelling throughout France, in anticipation of the celebration of NATO’s 60th anniversary Summit in Strasbourg, France, and Kehl, Germany, on 3–4 April 2009.

This exhibition was made possible by the French Army, which supplied the images and the logistical support for taking it on the road throughout France. Terre Armée magazine provided the majority of the photographs, which were honoured with prizes at several international photography competitions in 2008, including the Perpignan International Photojournalism Festival.

The exhibition can also be viewed online on the NATO website.
