Speaking at the NATO web conference “Modular Design - Creating a NATO Technology App Store” on 3 December 2020, Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said that engaging with experts from different areas and backgrounds is important for NATO in order to speed up adoption of new technology.

Mr.  Geoană highlighted that as the Alliance takes the work on NATO 2030 forward, it is key to expand the reach to new and diverse communities, including to private defence and non-defence companies that are driving change across different sectors. He noted that NATO is reaching out to new partners with solutions that are not primarily aimed at defence and spoke about the importance of interoperability as a key factor underpinning the Alliance’s success.

With participants including world-leading architects as well as representatives from startups that make solar-powered ocean drones, smart home network providers, satellite manufacturers and academia, the conference focused on new and disruptive ways of thinking when it comes to designing and investing in modern and advanced defence technologies.
