ISAF Ministers discuss Afghan mission progress and post-2014 planning

NATO Defence Ministers and counterparts from ISAF partner nations met with Afghan Defence Minister Bismullah Khan Mohammadi on Thursday (27 February 2014), to review ISAF mission progress and to discuss NATO’s relationship with Afghanistan after 2014. “We are focused on completing ISAF, but we also need certainty and predictability to launch our new mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan forces after 2014,” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said after the meeting.

NATO Defence Ministers discuss ways to improve capabilities, training

NATO Defence Ministers agreed on Wednesday (26 February 2014) to move ahead with plans to improve a set of defence capabilities which are key to dealing with future security challenges. “Through our operations, including Libya and Afghanistan, we have identified the areas where our capabilities do not go far enough or too few countries have them,” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.

Statement by NATO Defence Ministers on Ukraine

We continue to follow developments in Ukraine very closely. We deplore the tragic loss of life. We welcome the fact that violence has been stopped through negotiations that paved the way for a peaceful outcome. We emphasise the importance of an inclusive political process based on democratic values, respect for human rights, minorities and the rule of law, which fulfils the democratic aspirations of the entire Ukrainian people.

Ukraine, capabilities, and Afghanistan focus of NATO Defence Ministerial

The situation in Ukraine, as well as NATO’s defence capabilities and mission in Afghanistan are top of the agenda at a two-day meeting of NATO defence ministers which starts on Wednesday (26 February 2014). The ministers will pave the way for the NATO Summit in Wales in September.

Defining education and training needs for building integrity

Education and training requirements for operations and ministerial capacity development were the focus of discussions at a conference entitled, “The Building Integrity Education and Training Discipline”. The event took place at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium on 25 and 26 February.
