Secretary General and Qatari Prime Minister discuss Partnership

The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen welcomed the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani at NATO Headquarters on 1 March 2012 and thanked him for the key role played by Qatar in NATO’s mission to protect the Libyan people in 2011. The Secretary General also thanked Qatar for the good practical cooperation with the Alliance and praised the active political dialogue between NATO and Qatar.

NATO Allies gather in Washington to prepare Chicago Summit

The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen met in Washington, DC with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta and National Security Advisor Tom Donilon to discuss a range of issues related to the upcoming Alliance summit scheduled for 20 - 21 May in Chicago.

NATO Allies discuss in Washington preparations for upcoming Chicago Summit

Permanent representatives of the North Atlantic Council arrived in Washington for consultations on the summit planned for May of this year in Chicago. On Tuesday, 28 February, Allies discussed preparations for the Summit at the annual seminar organized by NATO’s Allied Command Transformation which this year focused on capabilities.

Allies aid snow-covered Montenegro

Following heavy snowfall, Montenegro declared a state of emergency throughout the country early this week and made a call for assistance from the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre. The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) is NATO's focal point for coordination of assistance provided by Allies and Partners in cases of civil emergency.

NATO and the United Nations Agree to Intensify Cooperation to Support Children Affected by Armed Conflict

NATO and ISAF partner nations agreed today to further intensify cooperation with the United Nations to support children affected by armed conflict. Allied and ISAF partners Ambassadors took stock of measures already put into action by NATO and received an update by United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children in Armed Conflict, Ms Radhika Coomaraswamy, who briefed the North Atlantic Council by video link from New York, as part of her efforts to engage with regional organizations, including the European Union and the African Union, on this issue.
