NATO reaffirms partnership with Iraq, will consider request for defence capacity building NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Brussels on Wednesday (3 December 2014), for a discussion on security and political developments in Iraq, Syria, and the wider region. The Secretary General noted that NATO and Iraq have worked for years on strengthening political dialogue and increasing the capacity of Iraqi security forces. Noting the challenging circumstances facing Iraq and the region, Mr Stoltenberg assured Prime Minister al-Abadi of the Alliance’s continued commitment to the NATO-Iraq partnership. |

NATO Foreign Ministers discuss Allied security, Ukraine, Afghanistan at one-day talks NATO Foreign Ministers are expected to agree on a continuous NATO presence in the eastern part of the Alliance and announce an interim Spearhead Force to enhance Allied security at their one-day meeting on Tuesday (2 December 2014). “In Wales, we agreed on the Readiness Action Plan. We are starting to deliver on that plan now,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. |

NATO and Afghanistan open new chapter of cooperation with launch of Resolute Support mission Foreign Ministers of NATO and fourteen partner countries decided on Tuesday (2 December 2014) to launch mission Resolute Support as of 1 January 2015 opening a new chapter of cooperation between the Alliance and Afghanistan. The new NATO-led mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Security Forces will “ensure that we continue to build on the gains we have made in Afghanistan”, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said. |
