NATO participates in Albanian OSCE Chairmanship High-Level Conference on combating corruption

More than 100 high-level participants, ministers and deputy ministers were invited by the Albanian OSCE Chairmanship to share best practices and lessons learned at the virtual conference “Good Governance and the Fight against Corruption in the Digital Era”, on 6 and 7 July 2020. NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations Jonathan Parish shared NATO’s experience on the impact of corruption on stability and security.

Coronavirus response: Poland delivers additional medical assistance to Iraq

On 5 July 2020, the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland donated 1,000 litres of disinfectant to Iraq’s health authorities, in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. This second donation followed a previous Polish contribution of 50,000 masks carried out this past 16 June.

Speaking at a virtual panel discussion at the annual Transatlantic Conference organised by the Harvard Kennedy School on Thursday (2 July 2020), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said that COVID 19 has accelerated transformation in many areas and that Allies are drawing lessons from this crisis together. Noting that NATO has continuously adapted to a changing world, Mr. Geoană said that now NATO is adapting once more in order to meet a range of global threats.

NATO-funded facility ready to receive and support Allied troops in Estonia

A new NATO infrastructure facility has just opened its doors at the Tapa Base in Estonia. The hub is able to receive and facilitate the onward movement of NATO forces, including the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), and will be used for exercises and prepositioning of equipment. The majority of the project, worth 20 million EUR, has been funded through the NATO Security Investment Programme (NSIP).

First aircraft of NATO’s future multi-role tanker transport fleet lands at Eindhoven airbase

NATO’s future fleet of multi-role aircraft (MMF) is marking an important milestone on Tuesday (30 June 2020), as the first of the eight aircraft in the fleet landed at the main operating base in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The aircraft, an Airbus A-330, arrived from the production facility in Getafe (Spain).

NATO Secretary General underlines the need for NATO to take a more global approach

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed an online event of the German Institute for Global and Area studies (GIGA) on Tuesday (30 June 2020). Speaking about “The Geopolitical Implications of COVID-19”, the Secretary General called for a global approach to address the security challenges we face. He stressed NATO 2030 was recently launched to reflect on where we see our Alliance ten years from now and how it will continue to keep us safe.
