Galen J. Nace

Galen J. Nace is Director of NATO Office of Security (NOS) / Deputy Assistant Secretary General of Security (DASG-S) in the Joint Intelligence and Security Division. He took post on 6 March 2023.

Mr. Nace is the Principal Security Advisor to the Secretary General and to the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, and acts as Chair of the Security Committee. He is responsible for negotiating and implementing Security Agreements with non-NATO nations and International Organizations. In his role, he oversees all aspects of NATO security, including counterintelligence, insider threat detection, and information and network integrity.
Mr. Nace joined the United States Department of State in 1999 and has served as security advisor to U.S. Ambassadors in Buenos Aires, Moscow, and Geneva. Mr. Nace also has extensive experience managing security for major international events and served as the U.S. Olympic Security Coordinator for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. As the Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Protection he was also responsible for overseeing security planning for all major international events with a U.S. national security interest. Other postings include Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Counterintelligence and leading offices focused on the investigation of document fraud, terrorism, human trafficking, and other national security investigations.
Mr. Nace holds a Bachelor of Science from Millersville University, and studied French, Spanish, and Russian languages at the Foreign Service Institute.
